PROFILES OF
CANDIDATESJOHN SISTARENIK,
CANDIDATE FOR COUNCIL
CHAIR
I have lived in Old Louisville since 1986. I served as chair of the Old Louisville Neighborhood Council in 1996 and 1997 and vice-chair in 1994 and 1995.
I am currently president of the Garvin Gate Association and treasurer of the Airport Neighbors' Alliance. I also serve on C-FAIR, the political action committee of the Fairness Alliance. I teach political science at Jefferson Community College and am coordinator of the History/ Political Science Program.
If elected chair for 2000, I plan to pursue the following goals:
- complete the revision of the neighborhood plan and the down zoning of Old
Louisville.
- establish and fund a full-time position of executive director for the Old
Louisville
Neighborhood Council and the Information Center.
- access new sources of funding, especially grants, for the OLNC and the OLIC.
WOODY WOODRUFF,
CANDIDATE FOR VICE
CHAIR FOR THE OLNC
Woody came to Old Louisville in 1986 and restored 1225 S. 2nd St. from 1986-1991 and 1429 S. 3rd St. from 1991-1999.
His home was on the Hidden Treasures Garden Tour in 1995, 1996,1997,1998,1999. His membership in the Koi Society resulted in his ponds being featured in the Society Tours, which brought in over a thousand visitors to the neighborhood. His home was featured during the 1997 Holiday' House Tour when the event lost a house four days before the tour. He graciously offered his house to assist in the success of the tour.
He has, beginning this year, sent out e-mails worldwide from OLDLOUISVILLE.COM. The site jumped from 3,000 visitors in May 1999 to 20,000 as of present date.
Woody has been a supporter of association goals and objectives. He has always stepped in to lend his assistance where needed, either as a project leader or a volunteer.
Watch for his OLDLOUISVILLE.COM truck touring the highways.
MARY MARTIN, DIRECTOR
CANDIDATE FOR OLIC
Mary Martin moved to Old Louisville in 1982, when she purchased a rundown apartment house and renovated it. In 1990 she purchased a second home on Third Street for her retirement residence. Mary is a real estate agent with the Paul Semonin company and operates her own company selling real estate and managing apartment buildings. Her real estates sales exceeded 12 million, many in the Old Louisville district.
Mary and her husband, Stan Murrell, are regular volunteers at neighborhood events, the St. James Art Show, Hidden Treasures Garden Tour, and the Holiday House Tour to which she also contributes funds as a sponsor. Mary served as treasurer of the Third Street Association for three years and is quick to provide person power and donations to neighborhood efforts. She is a source for getting the right person for the right job, especially when it comes to renovations of historic buildings. Mary is not afraid of difficult tasks and has great resources to assist the neighborhood. She is a strong supporter of the goals set forth for the Information Center. With her background and management experience she would be a definite plus for the neighborhood as well as for the Information Center.
