Crane House

New Year Dinner Auction, Friday, February 2, 2001
Crane House (The Asia Institute, Inc.) will sponsor its annual New Year Dinner Auction on Friday, February 2, at the Humana Building in downtown Louisville. This dinner, catered by Vincenzo's, will celebrate the beginning of the lunar Year of the Snake, which is observed by Chinese, Koreans, Vietnamese, and other Asians. According to the traditional Chinese calendar, it will be the year 4699. As Crane House's primary fundraising event, the dinner will benefit educational programs that introduce Asian cultures to students and adults in the region. Reservations are required and can be made by calling Crane House at 5 02/63 5 -2240. Tickets are $100 per person.

Beginner Chinese Language Class, Mondays, Jan. 22-Mar. 26, 2001, 5:30-6:30 p.m.
This class will focus on practical conversational Mandarin, which is China's official language. This class will be especially useful for those wishing to learn Chinese for business or travel. The fee is $135. In addition, registrants must also become members of Crane House. Call Crane House at 502/635-2240 or email adm@cranehouse.org to register. The registration deadline is January 19.

Hands on Sushi Cooking Class, Thursday, January 25, 2001, 6:30-8:30 p.m.

Tai Chi and Qi Gong Classes conducted by Master Teacher Yong You
Tai Chi developed over the centuries in China and is practiced extensively there. This slow-moving relaxing martial art is suitable for all age groups. Qi Gong is an ancient Chinese form of deep breathing exercises.
Tai Chi Beginner Class - 10 sessions: Mondays, Jan 15-Mar 19, 7:30-8:30 p.m. $95 ($85 members)
Tai Chi Intermediate Class - 10 sessions: Mondays, Jan15-Mar 19, 6:30-7:30 p.m. $95 ($85 members)
Qi Gong Beginner Class - 8 sessions: Tuesdays, Jan 16-Mar 6, 6:30-7:30 p.m. $80 ($72 members)
