"American Born" and "Secret Sauce"
Crane House will host performances by The Pleiades of two ten-minute plays from a six-part series entitled "Our New Commonwealth." The series is the work of playwright Peggy Cummins and is based on themes from her oral history project, "Louisville's Thriving Refugee Community: Past Histories, Present Hurdles, and Future Dreams", which was funded by the Kentucky Oral History Commission. "American Born" is a depiction of the joy and pride Vietnamese grandparents have when they finally have a grandchild born in the United States. This is a story of the optimism refugee families feel that they now have for their futures in America. "Secret Sauce" tells the story of the curious ways in which immigrants sometimes gain acceptance by their native-bom neighbors. It focuses on how much the Vietnamese are contributing to American communities and is authentic to the Louisville experience. Questions and discussions will follow the performances. Several of the interviewees from the original oral history project will be present.
Thursday, March 29, 5:30 p.m. - 6:30 p.m.
at the Crane House.
  Fee: Members, free; Non-members, $5.
