Grawemeyer Hall, University of LouisvilleUniversity of Louisville   Founded in 1798, U of L is busy celebrating it's 200th birthday in 1998.  Belknap Campus is situated on 169 park-like acres on the southern edge of Old Louisville, and is home to eight of the University's twelve colleges.  U of L has an enrollment of approximately 21,000 students.  Grawemeyer Hall (pictured) serves as its administration building, and is modeled after the Roman Pantheon and Thomas Jefferson's Rotunda at the University of Virginia.  U of L's web site contains a history of the university and a campus tour describing the beautiful historic and modern buildings along with an exhaustive description of its programs and mission.

     

Spalding UniversitySpalding University and Presentation Academy on the north side of Old Louisville.  Spalding is the fastest growing four-year college in the State of Kentucky, and currently has an enrollment of approximately 1,500 students. It offers a curriculum in liberal arts, business, education and health sciences in both the graduate and undergraduate level.

   

DuPont Manual High School One of Old Louisville's (and the city's) finest schools. The school has five magnet programs: the Youth Performing Arts School, math, science and technology magnet, visual arts, high school university (university courses at neighboring U of L), and communications.  (Pictures)

The Youth Performing Arts Center, home of the Louisville Youth Orchestra,  is located at 1517 South Second Street next to DuPont Manual High School. Visitors are always welcome at rehearsals. The J.B. Speed HouseThe J.B. Speed House, F&H Home Page Former home of one of
Louisville's most prominent families and benefactors, and one of Old Louisville's most sprawling mansions.  The Speed family endowed the J. B. Speed Art Museum.  The building now houses a law firm.  On Franklin and Hance's home page you can read about the history of this house.
