Recipe Book

A traditional southern pudding recipe.   It would have been familiar to the early residents of Old Louisville. The source of this recipe is the Kentucky Receipt Book, published in 1903.  The author is Mary Harris Frazer.


Fruit Biscuit.

Grated rind of 1 lemon, 2 pounds of flour, 3 teaspoons baking powder, pound lard, 1 teaspoon salt, 4 ounces sugar, 2 eggs beaten lightly, 2 pound raisins, pound citron. Add milk enough to make a soft dough; cut out with cutter, and moisten on top with white of egg and a little milk. Bake in a moderate oven.
