The
Main Branch of the Louisville Free Public Library, founded in 1908 and
located just north of Old Louisville on York Street between Third and
Fourth, is within easy walking distance of most of Old Louisville. Over
80% of the the classical style original building (1906-1908, Tachau and
Pilcher, architects) was financed by a donation from Andrew Carnegie. history

The Ekstrom
Library on the University of Louisville Campus is the main
library of a University system of libraries which contains more than 1.4
million volumes and over 13,000 current subscriptions to journals,
various special collections, media and microforms. It is located
on the University of Louisville Belknap campus, just a few hundred yards
south of Old Louisville.

reels of microfilm, 840 newspaper titles, a 3700 piece sheet
music collection, 3500 family histories and 4000 genealogy files on
Kentucky families. There is a $3-5.00/day usage fees for
non-members.

of the Sons of the American Revolution
The
SAR national headquarters is located at the northern edge of Old
Louisville. It's library contains a non-circulating collection of
over 50,000 items focusing on genealogy and American Revolutionary War
history and military records. The collection includes family
genealogies, state and county history and vital statistics especially
strong in New England records, Federal Census Records complete through
the year 1860 for every state; some records through 1920, compact discs
including FamilySearch and Family Tree Maker, Revolutionary War pension
applications,and a special George Washington collection containing
books, journal articles and manuscripts.
$5.00/day usage fee. No fee for members of the SAR, DAR, SR, or Friends
of the SAR Library.
