InKY READING SERIES OPENS SEASON WITH POETRY on JAN. 11

Open mic at 7:00 • Music at 7:30 • Featured readers at 8:00 • Free!

the Rudyard Kipling • 422 W. Oak Street in Louisville

Featuring poets Jillian Weise, Kristi Maxwell, Christina Lovin and music by Teneia Sanders

Cincinnati poets Jillian Weise and Kristi Maxwell will be joined by Kentucky poet Christina Lovin and singer/songwriter Teneia Sanders for the first show of the 2008 InKY Reading Series spring season on Friday, January 11 at the Rudyard Kipling in Louisville.

Jillian Weise is the author of The Amputee's Guide to Sex (a collection of poems from Soft Skull Press ), an authentic exploration of disability and sexuality based on the experience of an above-the-knee amputee. Tired of seeing "cripples" appear as asexual characters in all forms of media, Weise took on a subject close to home: her own disability. Her poems have appeared in The Atlantic Monthly, Chelsea, Tin House and others. Her chapbook, Translating the Body, was released by All Nations Press in January 2006. She is currently a fellow at the University of Cincinnati.

Kristi Maxwell is the author of Realm Sixty-four, a collection of poems just released from Ahsahta Press. Her second book, Hush Sessions, will be published by Saturnalia in 2009. She is pursuing a doctorate at the University of Cincinnati.

Christina Lovin is the author of What We Burned for Warmth, a chapbook of poems from Finishing Line Press. Her work has appeared in Harvard Summer Review, Diner, Hunger Mountain, The Bark, and the anthologies Missing Mountains and Coal: An Anthology. She is a recipient of the Al Smith Fellowship from the Kentucky Arts Council.

January's InKY will feature music by Louisville singer/songwriter Teneia Sanders, who will play songs from her first full album, Soul Catcher.

Other highlights of the season include InKY's 4th birthday party on February 8, featuring poetry by Frank X Walker and music by John Mann; a celebration of African American women in poetry featuring Affrilachian poets Kelly Norman Ellis and Amanda Johnston on March 14; and a National Poetry Month event on April 11. Full details of the season are available online at www.inkyreadingseries.com.

The InKY Reading Series, featuring quality literature and live music, has served as a platform for emerging and established local and regional writers since February 2004. The reading series is a project of InKY, Inc., a Louisville-based 501(c)(3) non-profit arts organization. For more information on the free monthly series, visit www.inkyreadingseries.com, e-mail erin@inkyreadingseries.com, or call 502/636-1311. The organizers welcome writing samples from those who would like to read at future events.
